The whistle echoes amongst the men, Each of whom are stood with paper and pen. Clutching their letters of final goodbyes; farewell to their families and to all the lies. Hearts stop dead upon hearing that sound, Then blood in their ears begins to pound. The world around them comes to a stop, As they prepare to go over the top. One man sits and covers his ears, Closes his eyes and away fly his fears. He sees his girl in a dress that flows, Smiling with lips the colour of a rose. I lie here, A river flowing in my eyes. The Sun steps back to disappear, As the moon unmasks its disguise. The lonely stars are full of fears; Trapped, never to be set free. Droplets of rain their tears; Silently they make their plea. The sky is a pot of glitter, Spilt over a pool of dark blue ink. Between thoughts my mind flickers, Into memories my mind sinks. I watch the stars fade out, As I lie thinking of you. The breeze breathes life into my body Fixing me together like glue.

Your eyes lock onto mine, Icy blue, they freeze the space between us, and fill it with tension so intense it threatens to cut me open and penetrate my heart, pouring in it hatred and jealousy. I break away from your gaze, My heart beating out a warning To my body; to run, to escape. I am on fire, Blood rushing through my veins, Searching for a release. Now, with my back turned I can feel you watching me, Your shadow replaces mine. Every move I make, Every sight I take in, You criticise; Whispers in the dark. With me the act ends; The mask rises off your face, I can see right through you; What lies beneath.

Your words surround me; Twist and twirl in front of my eyes. Everywhere I look, everywhere I run, Again and again I hear goodbyes. Your voice rings out, A mist only my mind can see. My body rooted to the ground, My heart never to be set free. The memories bring pain to my heart, Enemies I cannot hope to outrun. Our story is a tragedy; A history that life has undone. I wish to see beyond you, But to life I am blind. Your shadow covers the light; Only darkness in my mind.

She glides into the room, Her crimson dress flowing. Body engulfed in a sweet perfume, Only half of her face showing. The candles flicker, Bowing down as she passes. Heartbeats become quicker, Every man's affection she amasses. Her discomfort begins to tell, For she is not all that she seems. To herself she has said farewell, Haunted by the world of dreams. Behind the mask lies the pain, The sharp feeling of regret. Her composure she must maintain, Try to forgive and forget.

My destiny calls from the depths of the well, The sound of the water my own death knell. Spirits pass upwards and through the stone, Leaving behind pennies people have thrown. The well is filled with the souls of others, All of whom strayed from the same path. Every fate as damned as another's, Consumed by this ancient curse's wrath. Mysteries surround this age-old dwelling, I, a servant of this ancient foretelling. My heart lies at its base, My life removed without a trace.
